And, with Maschine Mk2 in Browse mode, it can be used to scroll through menus and make selections. It's the added functionality of the encoder that pushes things forwards, though: with the Volume, Swing and Tempo buttons all inactive, it acts like a jogwheel, replicating the Transport section's Step buttons. On the original Maschine, this comprised Volume, Tempo and Swing knobs, and the Note Repeat button now there's just the one detented push-button encoder and buttons to switch it between Volume, Tempo and Swing modes, as well as single step buttons (the equivalent of one encoder detent left or right), an Enter button (the equivalent of pressing the encoder), and the aforementioned Note Repeat button. In terms of physical layout, the new hardware is identical to the old, with the exception of the Master section, which has been totally redesigned. Also on a visual tip, the dual backlit screens are now 'inverted' - i.e., white text and waveforms on a black background - making them clearer in low light and just better looking generally. But, apart from some minor tweaks, the hardware remained alone and unchanged until the release of Maschine Mikro last year. Over the last three years, the software has been updated many times, watershed improvements including drag-and-drop of MIDI and audio from Maschine into a host DAW, and VST/AU plug-in hosting. It's possible to work up complete projects or perform live on the Maschine controller without touching the host computer's mouse or even looking at its screen. One of the package's main selling points is the integration between the controller and the software, which is so tight that pretty much every function of the software can be operated directly from the hardware. Expand: Double Jump - While the double jump isn’t a powerful attack or a major improvement, it makes traveling through levels easier. If you choose to strengthen your character early via the Enhance skill tree, you’ll waste skill points that are better used for unlocking new talents first. While each node in that section of the Brain Tree will power up your character, the improvements are minor. Before you make any decisions, ignore everything in the Enhance skill tree. Its menu bar presets include icons as well as text descriptors that make them instantly understandable. I tip my hat to Scholle McFarland for including this information in her book, Take Control of Catalina, especially since so few others have noticed it. (In older versions of macOS, you can Option-click the full-screen button to maximize a window.) While you’re Option-hovering, you also get a zoom button that causes a window to fill up the screen (minus the space occupied by the Dock and menu bar) without going full-screen. Hover your pointer over the green button while pressing the Option key for a few seconds to see a different set of commands that let you move windows to the left or right instead of tiling them-meaning the windows are not taken full-screen but simply shifted to one half of the screen or the other. Strangely, Apple’s help article about Split View makes no mention of a hidden feature in Catalina that gives you additional window-positioning options that don’t invoke full-screen mode. That also happens if you tile one window but no additional windows are available to fill the remaining space. That menu also provides an option to make a single window full-screen. Choose one of those options, and macOS prompts you to select one of the remaining windows to fill the rest of the screen. Hover the pointer over a full-screen button and a menu appears with options to tile the window to the left or the right of the display. In 10.15 Catalina, Apple simplified the interface. Release the button and then click a window on the other side of the screen to add it to Split View. As you hold the button, the window shrinks, and you can drag it to the left or right side of the screen. Click a window’s green full-screen button at the upper left. Starting with macOS 10.11 El Capitan, Apple gave us Split View. More on Magnet and Moom in a bit-let’s look at what macOS can do for you first. Magnet and Moom provide a capability I have envied in Microsoft Windows and Google’s ChromeOS: “window snapping.” When you drag windows to the edges of the screen, window snapping causes them to snap into particular positions and shapes. You can buy Moom for $10 directly from its developer, Many Tricks, or through the Mac App Store. I weaned myself off Magnet and went all-in with Moom because of its flexibility. Last I checked, the $1.99 app sat atop the Mac App Store’s productivity category.Īnother, Moom, lets you customize your window behavior. It was my favorite app of this kind for a long time. One window-positioning utility, Magnet, is a zero-configuration tool that anticipates what presets users want. There are many such apps out there, and even general-purpose utilities like Keyboard Maestro can help you move windows around. Third-party utilities give you even more window control. You’re probably aware of Split View, which puts two windows side-by-side in full-screen mode, and Apple has built in additional capabilities. You can automate such drudgery to a large degree. #1667: OS Rapid Security Responses, 1Password and 2FA, using Siri to request musicĪutomate Window Positioning With macOS and Appsĭon’t squander precious time manually repositioning and resizing Mac windows over and over again.#1668: Updated Rapid Security Responses, OS public betas, screen saver bug fixed, “Red Team Blues” book review.#1669: OS security updates, ambiguity of emoji, small business payments with Melio, Twitter now X.#1670: Arc Web browser hits 1.0 release, “Do You Use It?” polls about Apple features.#1671: Apple Q3 2023 earnings, new Beats headphones and earbuds, Stage Manager adoption rate, do you use Spotlight?.Once the download completes, open your Terminal.app and complete the installation: hdiutil attach -quiet -noverify -nobrowse -noautoopen ~/Downloads/xcode_5.1.1.dmgĬp -npR /Volumes/Xcode/Xcode. In every way possible, it reproduces the elegant look and feel of the NEXTSTEP user interface. One of my favorite window managers (albeit for X11) is Window Maker. Here is the greater context: I wasn't intending to tie my Music app to Insteon so that I could listen to music by pushing a button on a light switch. And I only restart the computer when there are updates, which is not even once a week. I often leave my email open all the time, because I use it constantly. Which, in the case of the Music app, isn't every day.īut that is not a complete answer. I have a habit of shutting off applications I don't need right now because I don't want them just idle in the background in the event I'm in the mood to use them. I have plenty of RAM but it does get taxed, my kernal daemon goes into overdrive, and my fan comes on. I’m wondering why you shut down the Music app every time? I just leave it running in the background. Please counter with me if I'm completely wrong - but I need an example scenario that doesn't involve me having to manually reconnect with the app every single time I restart the Music application or the computer. But at its present state, I'm afraid for me it's useless. I realize there is a whole bunch of things this plugin is supposed to do, and that fixing it to keep up with Apple's changes is ongoing, and I shall monitor that. I was experimenting with the idea of making my Music app play a PARTICULAR song when a particular Insteon button is pressed, but I can't figure out how to do that yet. I can't figure out what the value-add on tying to Insteon is. Isn't it easier for me to just open Music and click Play? Also I can control the Music app pretty well with my Remote app on the iPhone. So to use it, I have to: launch the Music app, launch the Indigo app, re-establish the connection (API?), and then I can basically toggle on and off the play feature using an Insteon button for example. My argument: I can't use the app if it keeps disconnecting and staying disconnected every time I shut down the Music app. I'm sticking with the word useless for now. My favorite feature of the latter is the ability to have indigo play a playlist, and ramp up (or down) the volume. I actually use both the standard iTunes plugin as well as the iTunes Local plugin. I was surprised to find no mention of this app on the MPU forum.Īfter checking them both out, I went with Fidelia and its tiny iOS companion app for controlling the player from my iPhone.I hardly think the plugin is useless as it still works when the Music app is running. The Fidelia player sounds better to my ears, targets an audiophile audience, and can be purchased from the Mac App Store. Swinsian seems not to have been updated for Apple Silicon M1/M2 Macs but has lots of features and looks a lot like the current iTunes/Music stock app, even seeming a bit creaky in its UI in places. Both offer trial periods from their developer websites. Neither of them are new and neither try to be a complete replacement for Apple’s iTunes/Music app. Two apps that will integrate with my iTunes library, and not require a subscription, are Swinsian and Fidelia. I’ve gotten so tired of the Catalyst re-write of the iTunes/Music player on my M1 MacBook Air falling behind the song that is actually playing, and then stalling out and just quitting, that I’ve been looking for a replacement. New series involving Hello Kitty with different themed designs are released regularly, following current trends. Yamaguchi has said that fashion, movies, and TV inspire her in creating new designs. In 1980 Yuko Yamaguchi became lead designer and has remained in charge since. In 1976 Setsuko Yonekubo temporarily took over as lead designer for Hello Kitty, after Shimizu left Sanrio. Sanrio already had several characters set in the US, and it wanted Hello Kitty to be different. Sanrio decided to make Hello Kitty British because foreign countries, in particular Britain, were trendy in Japan at the time of Hello Kitty's creation. He first considered "Hi Kitty" before finally settling on "Hello Kitty," her current name. Sanrio's motto is "social communication," and Tsuji wanted the brand name to reflect that by including a greeting. Shimizu got the name Kitty from Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass during a scene early in the book, Alice plays with a cat she calls Kitty. Hello Kitty was initially known only as "the white kitten with no name" (名前のない白い子猫). Hello Kitty was designed by Yuko Shimizu and was added to the lineup of early Sanrio characters in 1974. Tsuji noted the profits gained by adding a cute design to the shoes and hired cartoonists to design cute characters for his merchandise. In 1962, Shintaro Tsuji, founder of Sanrio, began selling rubber sandals with flowers painted on them. Ĭreation and design Yuko Shimizu was the original designer of Hello Kitty. As of 2008 there were over 50,000 different Hello Kitty branded products. A variety of products have featured the character over the years, like school supplies, clothing, accessories and toys, along with other items. The Hello Kitty media franchise has grown to include a number of animated series targeted towards children, as well as several comics, animated films, video games, books, music albums and other media productions. There are Sanrio theme parks based on Hello Kitty: Harmonyland in Hiji, Ōita, Japan, Sanrio Puroland in Tama New Town, Tokyo, Japan, and Hello Kitty Shanghai Times in Shanghai, China. UNICEF has appointed Hello Kitty children's ambassador and the Japanese government appointed her ambassador of tourism. By 2014, when Hello Kitty was 40 years old, she was worth about $8 billion a year. By 2010 the character was worth $5 billion a year and The New York Times called her a "global marketing phenomenon". The brand went into decline in Japan after the 1990s, but continued to grow in the international market. Hello Kitty's popularity also grew with the emergence of kawaii (cute) culture. Originally Hello Kitty was only marketed towards pre-teenage girls, but beginning in the 1990s, the brand found commercial success among teenage and adult consumers as well. Hello Kitty was created in 1974 and the first item, a vinyl coin purse, was introduced in 1975. According to her backstory, she lives in a London suburb with her family, and is close to her twin sister Mimmy, who is depicted with a yellow bow. Sanrio depicts Hello Kitty as an anthropomorphized white cat with a red bow and no visible mouth. Hello Kitty ( Japanese: ハロー・キティ, Hepburn: Harō Kiti ), also known by her real name Kitty White ( キティ・ホワイト, Kiti Howaito), is a fictional character created by Yuko Shimizu, currently designed by Yuko Yamaguchi, and owned by the Japanese company Sanrio. The real stars of the product are obviously the minifigs provided: we get an unpublished version of Mace Windu and three Clone Troopers of the famous 187th Legion delivered here in a color matching that of the blade of Windu's saber. It's really blatant here, whether it's when it comes to sticking white on white or red on red. There is no escaping the eternal difference in color between the background color of the stickers and that of the parts on which they must be stuck. The tank also seems to me a little undersized for the minifigs provided, they have a little trouble finding their place in the different positions. The finish of the tank is very average with a front hatch that does not close completely, a central corridor too low for the minifigs and a somewhat empty internal space. The presence of wheels under the tank also allows it to move with a relatively credible floating effect, they know how to be very discreet under the machine and we believe in it. The youngest will probably be satisfied with it, the vehicle being equipped with a few features that will keep them busy for five minutes: two spring shooters sides, three hatches that can be opened to slide the Clones in and four wheels that allow this tank seen in the video games of the franchise Star Wars: Battlefront and in some comics to move without scratching the floorboards. The machine is assembled in a few minutes, you have to stick a large handful of stickers to give it its final appearance and the result is ultimately just a simple children's toy without any particular pretension or ambition. We are not going to lie to each other for too long, it is the Clone Troopers and Mace Windu who are featured here, the tank only serving as a pretext to sell us a construction toy which is in my opinion much too expensive for what it actually has to offer. In the packaging, a new interpretation of the machine already seen at LEGO in 2008 in the set 7679 Republic Fighter Tank then in 2017 in the set 75182 Republic Fighter Tank, accompanied here by Mace Windu with a nice pad print on his arms, a Clone Commander, two Clone Troopers from the 187th Legion and two Battle Droids. Today we take a quick tour of the content of the LEGO Star Wars set 75342 Republic Fighter Tank, a box of 262 pieces which will be available at the retail price of €39.99 from April 26, 2022. LeBron has reached the finals twice in his NBA career and still hasn't claimed a single ring. Probably the biggest reason why LeBron won't reach the likes of Kobe is due to his lack of championships. Although LeBron James is a much more athletic player than Kobe Bryant will ever be and is an individual that possesses much more strength, speed and ability, there is still no doubt in my mind that LeBron will never be better than Kobe. Many NBA fans often argue to which is better, thinking that it is too close to compare the two. Today, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James are both regarded as members of the NBA's top tier of best players. Like the 94 rockets didn’t play around a ball handler but same idea. Why Kobe Bryant is better than LeBron James: I’ll ask you or anyone else to name a roster with one superstar and pure role players besides 1 or 2 guys that had great success and shared the ball and used their top guy as a play finisher predominately instead of feeding their top guy and asking him to create. Equal opportunity offenses are usually superior but don’t think they work well on not talented teams. I would argue how lebron and Luka played was to the benefit of the team as the offensive talent on their team wasn’t there. Personally I can’t disagree with what you said I just think brons edge as a help defender is a lot bigger. It wasn’t just advanced metrics, that was the common opinion too for the defense. Sometimes sharing the ball isn't a bad thing, and teams did play Bran in single coverage in order to tire him out and not get his teammates as many open looks while KB was more of a play finisher like a 2nd 3-Peat Jordan and played within a team concept. You can’t really use rapm for the playoffs, it’s a great stat but best used for looking at multiple regular seasons, sample size is too small. Lebron had monster averages in the '09 Playoffs, but KB had the better On/Off and RAPM numbers. KB played off-ball a lot more and his usage numbers were lower so his numbers weren't as flashy, but they were still ATG in a historical context and led to more wins. We've had this argument with Luka in these POs (even though I'm a Luka defender) and it really depends on match-ups and how the opposing team is choosing to play defense. KB's raw and advanced numbers were superstar level, and while Bran did more & played more minutes as that's how his team played, it did not work to the benefit of his teams. He's a really good defender but not even the best defensive player on his own team, and his numbers are a little better than Jaylen's as he's more of a playmaker & a better ballhandler, but their consistency on offense is about the same. Nah, like JT's numbers are actually mid if we're trying to put him at a top 5 level. Sometimes sharing the ball isn't a bad thing, and teams did play Bran in single coverage in order to tire him out and not get his teammates as many open looks while KB was more of a play finisher like a 2nd 3-Peat Jordan and played within a team concept. Lebron was a better help defender but Kobe was better 1 on 1, some of the advanced metrics can get out of whack when a team is heavily reliant on one player, like we saw with Jokic this season. Ik giannis lost and had a meh series vs bostpn while tatum made the finals but it doesnt matter, giannis is just betterNah, like JT's numbers are actually mid if we're trying to put him at a top 5 level. Comparing lebron/kobe from 09-10 is not far off from comparing giannis and tatum this year(yes that's how dominant lebron was in 09/10). There's no universe where you can argue kobe didnt have a significantly better supporting cast. Lebron had his flaws back then and bad series but a big reason he didnt make the finals was he ran into better teams. That's something that gets overlooked, lebron being much better on defense than kobe in 09-10 too. Tatum is contending for top 5 in many impact metrics, you're only looking at tatum's box score stats which arent that impressive but his impact is high a lot of because of his defense. |
